LL COOL J AND DAUGHTER RECEIVE DEGREE TOGETHER

Hip hop legend and actor LL Cool J never graduated from high school or college after signing with Def Jam Records as a teenager in 1984.

But last week, the rapper born James Todd Smith received an honorary doctorate degree from Northeastern University. The moment became even more special because he shared the experience with his daughter, Italia Smith, who also graduated.

“I’ve been called a few things, but never a doctor, that’s for sure,” said Cool J to CBS Boston. “For them to recognize my body of work and my contributions to the world of art is an amazing feeling.”

Adding to the ‘awe’ factor, LL was allowed to present his daughter her degree after she walked across the stage.

“It made me feel real proud because I know she put a lot of hard work in, a lot of dedication, a lot of commitment and a lot of hours,” LL said.

DR. DRE, FIRST BILLIONAIRE IN HIPHOP? NOT YET

Since news emerged that Apple was acquiring Dr. Dre’s headphone Beats by Dre for $3.5 billion, the hip-hop community has been agog with the news. Even Dre can’t wait for the deal to sail before announcing to the world in a video. But in a new report TMZ, Dr. Dre might not celebrate yet. Read the report below.

Dr. Dre better stop counting his chickens before they hatch -- calling himself the "first billionaire in hip hop" -- a rep for Forbes tells TMZ, once the $3.2 Billion Apple deal is finalized ... the rap mogul will NOT hit the billion dollar mark.

Forbes Assistant Managing Editor for Wealth tells us ...  they've done the math, and after state and federal taxes ... Dre will be worth in the neighborhood of $800 million.

It appears Dre only owns 25% of the company ... so the max he'd make off the sale is $800 MIL.   After state and federal taxes, he's left with $480 MIL, and when you add in Dre's other assets, that's how Forbes now comes up with $800 MIL.  Close but no cigar.

The editor says, "Not quite enough to debut on the Forbes 400 but plenty for bragging rights.”

In the words of Ice Cube ... check yo self before you wrickity-wreck yo self.
